Mr X came to us having received a letter from a debt collection firm for a non payment of Council Tax . Mr X was unemployed and receiving treatment for depression and anxiety which had stopped him from working. He was also receiving Employment Support Allowance (ESA) whilst he was incapacitated. Add to this Mr X had not attended a meeting he needed to attend at Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) resulting in his ESA being stopped, he was in a very poor position indeed looking at a Magistrates Court appearance and possible eviction.
Whilst today Mr X is not out of the woods we did manage to get the council to come to an arrangement with Mr X for the Council Tax arrears, we set in place a meeting for him to meet with DWP to get his benefits restarted. We also contacted other creditors his to get them to hold off with recovery actions they also were threatening.
Today Mr X has in place agreements with creditors that are manageable. We are continuing to monitor things with Mr X and hopeful that in the next few months he will be on top of everything.
